Creativity and New Media

There are many ways to express creativity through the use of New Media. One of the platforms in New Media is a virtual world on the internet. A virtual world is essentially an online platform that mimics the real-world with a few twists. These types of platforms allow users to do many things, from creating and dressing up an avatar, or exploring to interacting and creating things in a virtual world. One of the more popular virtual worlds is a game called Minecraft. Minecraft is a game where users can use blocks to build pretty much anything. Users can play with one another through servers and channel their creativity collectively and do what they wish.

In order to do this, I had to first download the game. Once it was downloaded, I had to make a server. There are many ways to do this, but I personally used their built in service called Minecraft Realms. With this service, I simply need to pay a small fee per month and they will host a server that anyone can connect to as long as they have an internet connect. After setting up this server, I simply just invited my friends to connect. We were able to mine many different metals in the game and make armor to explore. My friend and I were able to build equipment and go explore. Currently, we are at a mushroom infested area in the game and just having fun. Through the use of the virtual world and the internet New Media tools, I was able to interact with my friends across the globe in a way that cannot be done otherwise.
