Advice
I remember when I was
applying for colleges, I only knew Baruch for its Accounting Program through
word of mouth. I’ve never seen ads or even seen any postings on new media about
Baruch. It would be beneficial if Baruch started using social media platforms
to market themselves. My suggestion would be for Baruch faculty to create
Instagram and post about the extracurricular activities that are available.
There is a stigma around commuter schools being boring since Baruch is a city
college. However, Baruch has a rich student life and plenty of different clubs
and organizations that students can partake in. This, in my opinion, is one of
the strong suites and it can be used to break the stigma around commuter
colleges. The reason why more students are going away for college, would be the
physical appeal, having a large campus, and the amount of extracurricular
activities that are available. It would be advantageous if Baruch started doing
that posting about the different organizations on campus and a short
description of what the organization does. At the same time, it would be
awesome to see Baruch create small clips that summarized what a day would look
like of a Baruch student. It can give the applicants an insight on what
attending Baruch looks like. Creating a social media account is also a new way
to connect with the younger generation that are more tech savvy. Another way to entice applicants would be to
highlight the diverse student body. Posting once a month to highlight some
students on campus can make it more relatable for the younger generation.
